Red Hatters gather for costume party
By Susan Douglas
Rouge Rogues
On Mon. Oct. 26th, the Les Rouge Rogues local chapter of the Red Hat Society, gathered at the CN Hotel for their Spooktacular Event. Red hats and purple clothes gave way to costumes of Zorro, Mrs. Claus, Snow White, Maleficent the dark fairy, and Ringmaster, just to name a few of the 20 in attendance. Witches with flashing eyes added to the room’s decor thanks to Lady Izzy, (Jeanette Wolanicki.) Gummy worms and mud pie with eye balls were placed at each setting (by the CN staff) while purple gloves sporting florescent spiders and goody bags were the take home party favours.
Countess Shutterbug led the evening with grace before the ladies dined on a fantastic meal! Thanks again to Pattie Diebel and able assistant Val Leininger for an “over the top” meal . A delicious witches brew with floating eye balls, (soy ice cream) was served by creator, Charlene Gustafson. Yum!
The brave at heart took turns placing their hands into the “touchy feely” box produced by Lady Round To It, (Elsie Gerula). After many laughs the game was revealed to be a box of slimy broad noodles in jell-o with a strategically placed gourd, spider and grasshopper.
The door prize of a Halloween gift bag and pumpkin ornament was won by Jean Bernst. Kazoos were played in honour of two birthdays, Lady Eleanora, (Eleanor Wiersema) and Lady La Jeanette, (Jeanette Armstrong.)
Lady Dolly of La Tea Da, (Dawn Jarvis), gave a few humorous readings along with the history on how Halloween came about. To conclude the evening Lady Linda of La Di Dah , (Linda Budreau), gave the announcements as follows: Our next event called “I Want That!” will be held at the Evangelical Covenant Church on 1st Street, Tues., Nov. 24th at 5:30 p.m. We’ll begin the evening with light appetizers and refreshments followed by a fun auction. A fee of $3.50 can be paid at the Rainy River Record Office by Nov. 13th if you plan to attend.
Our next Bookworms Book Club will meet Tues. Nov. 10th at 11:30 at Charlene Gustafson’s in Stratton. The Rainy girls will car pool from the ECC church at 11:00 a.m. See you there!
