Marjorie Myrtle Bolen
(nee Fadden)
Marjorie Bolen, 86, of 45 Roy Street, Emo, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Mine Centre, Ontario where she had resided with daughter Colleen for the last eight months.
Marjorie was born March 31, 1923 in Rainy River, the second daughter born to the late Hazel (Gunderson) and John Fadden. Following a happy childhood and upon completion of high school, Marjorie left Rainy River and moved to Shenston Township, northwest of Barwick, to begin her teaching career at a one room country school, Shenston # 1.
It was here that she met David Edgar Bolen and they were wed on Christmas Eve in 1943. Marjorie moved to the Bolen family farm just north of the school where they were to reside for the next 39 years. Marjorie worked long hours alongside David to make this farm the successful operation that it eventually became. And, at the same time Marjorie continued with her teaching career. Several generations of students fondly recall learning the ‘Three R’s’ from Marjorie during the years she spent at the long gone country schools of Shenston, Blue, Pattullo, Sifton and Dewart, North Branch, Bergland, and Mather-Potts. With the construction of the (then) new Sturgeon Creek School Marjorie transferred there and remained until retirement at age 65
In addition to teaching and farming, Marjorie found time to obtain her University degree and returned to Lakehead University to get her education degree. And, she and David raised five children on that family farm.
In 1981, the family farm was sold and Marjorie moved to Emo. She and David alternated between there, the cottage at Off Lake and the winter home at Yuma, Arizona.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband of 54 years David in 1998, parents John- 1961and Hazel -1979, infant daughter Brenda Joyce-1945, sisters Louise Johnson- 2001, Laura Almers- 2002, Gladys Peloquin-2009, and sister in law Judy Brennen -2009.
