Ignace Hunting Licence issuer fined $500
An Ignace hunting licence issuer has been fined $500 for failing to comply with licence-issuing procedures.
Martin Brindley, 50, pleaded guilty under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
A Ministry of Natural Resources Dryden District Conservation Officer checked an American hunter on September 27, 2002, near Running Deer Lake in Wildlife Management Unit 15A, northeast of Ignace. She had a moose hunting licence but no validation tag. She told the officer that Brindley had sold her the licence with the tag on September 14, 2002, at the Silver Dollar Trailer park and Campground, North of Ignace on Highway 599. The officer spoke to Brindley on October 24, 2002, about the sale and he admitted that he had not advised the hunter that the licence was invalid without the tag.
All licence issuers are required to advice non-resident moose hunters that they must validate their moose hunting licences with moose hunting validation tags prior to hunting.
Justice of the Peace Edith Baas heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in Ignace on February 25, 2003.
The public is encouraged to help protect it’s natural resources by reporting violations to the local MNR office or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
