Crystal Lindal elected president of RR chamber of commerce

The Rainy River and District Chamber of Commerce held its Annual General Meeting last Saturday at the Royal Canadian Legion in Rainy River.
Wrestling with poor attendance at monthly meetings last year, outgoing chamber president Ken Johnston proposed restructuring the chamber to a board of governance model that would see an executive of 5 elected at the AGM each year. They would then in turn meet each month and make decisions.
The problem in the past year was that the organization rarely had a quorum defined as 7-10 members by the constitution.
Rather than restructuring the members present at the AGM opted to pass a motion reducing the quorum to five paid members.
Following that nominations for President, Vice-president, Secretary and Treasurer were solicited from the members present. Being acclaimed as president was Crystal Lindal. Winning the only election of the evening was Sarah Berg for VP. She defeated Terri-Anne Lundgren who was later acclaimed to be treasurer. Linda Redeker-Tower was acclaimed as secretary.
Long time chamber member Gill Stamler said that this slate was a historic first with all women being elected.
Incoming president Lindal told the crowd that she looks forward to a good year where the chamber works together as a group of “like minded businesses.” She said that in a year the town will turn 100 and that alone gives the chamber something big to work towards.
