Jam21 speeds things up

Ken Johnston

Tired of snail’s pace internet? Well Jam21.net Internet Service Provider from Fort Frances is promising to give everyone of their customers an opportunity for a big boost!
Jam21 owner, Dave Ashworth, said that while his company has unveiled its high speed cable internet service in Fort Frances he has not forgotten about his customers out in the district. “We will be bringing high speed dial up to the district.”
That service uses a compression technology that can offer service up to five times faster than the current dial up rates. “It is comparable to AOL’s Top Speed technology,” said Ashworth Monday. “It takes the signal and speeds it up,” he explained.
While this sounds like a dream come true for Jam21’s customers, there are some limitations to the new service. Unlike cable service the high speed dial up will not increase file sharing or download speeds. “It will see web browsing and email speed up by as much as five times,” said Ashworth.
Ashworth said that for most people that is what they use their internet for the majority of time.
So why not bring in cable service to the district? Well the infrastructure is not in place and the cost to put in place would be very expensive. “I hope that eventually there will be at some point DSL service in the district,” said Ashworth. For now they are bringing in the best possible alternative with the high speed dial up.
“We have ordered the servers and the software and hope to have the new high speed dial up in place by early April,” said Ashworth.
