Railroad Daze date back to normal

If you were confused last year, organizers want you to know that they have changed the date of Railroad Daze back to normal this year.
For only the second time in its 22 year existence, Railroad Daze was moved to a different date last year. It was moved a week earlier so that the event could use the big tent. The tent was not available for Railroad Daze on the third weekend in July because the Fort Frances bass tournament used it.
So they moved Railroad Daze from the third to the second weekend in July last year.
However, Rainy River Economic Development Officer Andrew Hartnell said in an email last week, “The only reason was because the committee wanted that big tent and that was the only weekend it was available but we are not getting the tent again so we are putting it back on the regular weekend.”
So the annual festival is now back on the third weekend in July, which is the 16-18th of 2010.
The last time the event was moved was about 15 years ago. Many people booked their vacations based on the third weekend in July and when they showed up and the event was a week earlier, they were upset. The committee of the day then moved it back to the third week and some people moved their holidays to coincide with the new date. It took about three years to get things back to normal.
So mark your calendars and if you are booking a holiday to be in Rainy River for Railroad Daze, mark July 16-18, 2010 and “Track on Down!”
