Chapple township finishes 2003 with a small surplus

Chapple Municipality held their March Council Meeting on the ninth of March. All members were present as was road supt. Jim Teeple and Clerk-Treas., Doris Dyson.
Discussion on changes to the Welcome to Barwick signs included the placement of the lighthouse on the signage.
Reports for 2003 plus activities for 2004 were received from Frank Berg CBO.
Report for February 2004 was received from Greg’s Recycling which included, a contact was made concerning the collection of rechargeable batteries. A collection box is to be placed at the Municipal Office.
Councillor Peter VanHeyst reported on the DSSAB activities, the budget figures for 2004 have been received with an increase of approximately one percent over last year.
Councillor Mark Hyatt attended a presentation of the Rainy River School Board. It was a report card from the Board on what has been accomplished to date, and the goals they have set for the upcoming year.
Clerk Treasurer Doris Dyson received a thank you from FirCon concerning the Township’s donation towards their 2004 conference.
WJ Bowman provided a copy of the survey of the light house property that Council are purchasing from the Crown.
R.J. Burnside provided Council with the final proposed costs concerning their OSTAR project.
A copy of the white paper on water was also circulated to Council members.
Council approved by-law 1314. It is a by-law of the Township of Chapple authorizing the Reeve and Clerk-Treasurer to enter into an agreement between the Corporation and Her Majesty the Queen as represented by the Ministry of Natural Resources concerning fire management.
Mr. Jock Spence from BDO Dunwoody spoke to Council concerning the 2003 audit, Council were left with a small surplus.
