Cha-Ching!
Soon Rainy River’s citizens will be hearing the sound of the newly minted $3 centennial beaver bucks!
On Friday the president of the Rainy River and District Chamber of Commerce, Crystal Lindal, presented the Rainy River Legion with 500 of the special coins. This presentation was in response to the Legion’s $1,500 contribution to the cost of the minting of some 3,000 of the coins.
Lindal said that they coins will be put into circulation April 1st and will be usable as cash at all Rainy River Chamber of Commerce members until August 2, 2004.
The coins feature the now famous Millie the Beaver posing in the Town of Rainy River’s logo on one side and the 4008 and local legion on the other side. All key symbols from Rainy River’s history 100 years ago and through to today.
The chamber will also have special gold plated versions of the coins available in mint condition as collectibles. Only 50 have been purchased to date, but if they are popular, Lindal said the chamber might look at getting some more.
