The Lake of the Woods Girl’s Varsity Hockey Team held their banquet on Saturday, March 6, 2004 at the Rainy River Curling Club.
Each player was presented with a Golden Blooper Award for something amusing that they had done or something that had happened to them during the season. Then coaches Mike Mosher and Tim Lyon recapped the first-ever girl’s high school season. The coaches felt the girls had a fairly successful first season with 6 wins and 14 losses, of which seven were one point games and three of them went into overtime. High points of the season included beating Crookston and beating Moose Lake with only a few seconds left on the clock. The coaches said they are really looking forward to next year, as no one graduates this spring so the team should look the same next season. The girls will have a full schedule of games for the 2004-2005 season. The coaches extended a thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion for their generous contribution of ice time in Rainy River and to the Rainy River Rec Centre. The coaches also thanked the parents for all their support with fund raising and reminded them that they will have to continue to raise funds this summer to support next years program. The coaches then announced the awards for the Most Improved: Anne Gillie, Most Hustle: Courtney Bitter, and Most Dedicated: Amy Hasbargen. At the conclusion of the Banquet Co-Captains Danielle Rudd and Amy Hasbargen presented coaches Mike and Tim with gifts of appreciation for all of their time and dedication to the program.
