Shirley Ann (Larson) Clifford, 56
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Shirley Ann Clifford. Shirley fought a courageous battle with cancer and passed away on April 1, 2004 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, in Kenora, Ontario with her family by her side.
Shirley was born September 3, 1947 in Rainy River, Ontario to Ralph and Alice Larson and grew up in Bergland, Ontario. While working in Nestor Falls at Arrowhead Resort, she met her future husband, John Clifford. After a short courtship, they were married on October 31, 1965 in Kenora. The couple moved around for a few years due to John’s employment and then settled in Bergland for 16 years until moving to Kenora in 1987. Shirley was employed at Pats Outboard, then Woodlake Marine and finally at Degagne Motors until being diagnosed with cancer in December. She loved the outdoors, gardening, crafts, and spending time with her two grandsons. Shirley always had a positive outlook on life. The time she spent with family and friends was most precious to her and unselfishly put others before herself. She was always upbeat and strong willed, and her strength and courage carried her family and friends even in her difficult time.
Shirley was predeceased by her son Michael, her mother Alice and father Ralph, and her mother and father in law Eileen and Gilbert Clifford.
She will be sadly missed by her loving husband and best friend of 38 years, John, son Shaun, daughter in law Charlene and her grandsons Charlie and Joshua. Shirley is also survived by sisters Sharon (Gary) Wilson of Rainy River, Bev Storkson of Fort Frances, Brand (Mark) Jodoin of Hearst, Annette(Jon) Rousseau of Ignace and Lisa (Wes Boileau) of Fort Frances, sister in law Fern (Guy) Setterland of Crofton, BC, brother in law Terry (Elaine) Clifford of Nestor Falls and Hugh Clifford of Sleeman. She will also be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
Cremation has taken place. At Shirley’s request, there will be no memorial service. In her memory, family and friends are welcome to attend an informal come and go tea on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at the Ukrainian Hall located at 509 4th Street north, Kenora from 3 - 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to me Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation CT Scanner, 21 Sylvan Street West, Kenora, Ontario, P9N 3W7, would be appreciated.
