Plenty of fun in March and April

By Susan Douglas
RR Red Hat Society

The Les Rouge Rouges, local chapter of the Red Hat Society, had loads of fun in March and April. Twenty gals donned their Irish duds March 30th for a Jigg’s Dinner, (fresh corned beef stew) prepared and held at Queen La Diva’s (Susan Douglas). A Pistachio Liam Nilsson” dessert by Countess Shutterbug, (Lou Ricci) and Lady La Jeanette, (Jeanette Armstrong), topped off the meal. The ladies were served a “Dublin Punch” on arrival and seated at a festively decorated table with a Shamrock theme, and take home glasses filled with candy. Queen La Diva asked the girls to greet one another with “Falsha” which means “Welcome”, before giving an Irish blessing of thanks.
Glasses were then raised for an Irish toast and when asked how many ladies had Irish heritage, the majority of hands were raised. Flavoured teas finished off the delicious meal.

Our special guests arrived, “Sir Sing Superb”, (Jeff Fraser) and “Lady Tickle the Ivories”, (Jacquie Defresne). The Rogues swooned and tapped their feet to favourite ballads such as Danny Boy. Thanks again to our wonderful entertainers who helped us celebrate the Irish way. Lady Round to It, (Elsie Gerula), shared her pictures and memoirs of her recent trip to Ireland. Vice Queen, (Linda Budreau) played a game with the ladies, and prizes were awarded. Jean Lauzon took home the door prize. Charlene Gustafson shared that a group of red hatters from afar would like to get together with our group, and the Rogues were in agreement to billet the visitors. The evening ended with another toast.

Our next Rendezvous was our Easter Egg Hunt/Pot Luck, held at the Covenant Church on First St., April 26th with Queen La Diva as hostess. The room and tables were decorated in the Easter theme including Easter eggs, chocolate eggs and bunny napkin clips as party favours. Queenie served punch and coffee before asking the blessing. The 16 ladies enjoyed their buffet and for dessert, chicken cookies, fresh rhubarb square and cake were served. The Rogues eagerly divided into three groups and headed out for their plastic egg hunt, with each egg corresponding to a gift selection on the table. Every lady took home a prize or two. The red hatters then tuned their kazoos for a rendition of Happy Birthday in honour of those with April birthdays and the Red Hat Society.

Melissa Jensen arrived to give a presentation on the Relay for Life. Lady Dolly of La Tea Da, (Dawn Jarvis) will be our team leader for Les Rouge Rouges as they raise money for Cancer in June.
A game of “Old Sayings in Rhyme” was played with “Lady Round to It’ being our top winner. Several ladies took home gifts for their high scores. Lady Eleanora, (Eleanor Wiersema), won the door prize, an Easter gift basket of goodies.

The Rogues are planning a 7 day bus trip to Branson, Mo. in Oct. A deposit of $100.00 U.S. is payable asap to Queenie to ensure your spot. The total cost of $900.00 (which includes deposit) includes room, 12 meals, transportation, winery tour, Branson Belle lunch cruise, and at least 8 shows/events.
