Quilters stitch together a busy spring

The Ladyslipper Quilters Quilt Guild met on Monday evening, April 5, at the Brink Center in Baudette with 23 members attending.
Sandy Peterson presided at the business meeting. By-laws for the guild were approved. A July 4 quilt show is being planned with Sandy Johnson, Joan Oren, and Ruth Lee appointed to serve on the show committee. Election of officers will be held at the July meeting.
Several members utilized the great table space at the Brink Center to tie quilts at the March 20 workshop.
A variety of quilted items were displayed during “show and tell”. Audrey Olson and Vicki Goble each showed a quilt using the “block-of-the month” blocks from 2003. Vicki
also showed a scrappy design floral baby quilt. Many quilters also do fashion sewing as shown by Kathy Philpot who hand smocked the bodice of a lavender and white gingham dress sewn for her granddaughter. Kathy also showed a hand embroidered quilt block which she completed as a table topper. Printed picture panels of dogs and deer were the focus of two quilts sewn by Sandy Rose for her sons. A crisp blue and white quilt top was Bert Erickson’s handiwork.
Ten guild members participated in the “brown bag exchange” and everyone had a great time viewing the variety of wall hangings and table runners sewn from the six fat quarters of fabric - lots of creativity.
Modern technology is used by quilters and the latest hot technique in quilting is transferring photos and pictures to fabric using the computer and printer. Kris Berthiaume from Jeri’s Shop shared information on this technique as a means of embellishing a garment, a wall hanging or quilt.
