New birding books now available at RR Library
By Michael Dawber
Asst. Librarian
Birders and bird-watchers, take note: the Rainy River Public Library has all the information you need for a successful field trip!
Thanks to a recent grant from the province, the Library has been able to buy a whole new selection of books on birding.
Prize of our collection is the new Atlas of the Breeding Birds of Ontario.
This huge, beautifully-illustrated book covers all the birds that nest in Ontario.
Most importantly, this book has area maps showing just where you can expect to find these birds around Rainy River.
Then there’s The Reluctant Twitcher. This humorous look at birding by Richard Pope describes his year-long trek to find 300 bird species in Ontario.
Once again, this excellent new book features information about birding in Rainy River. You will also enjoy the book’s many lovely color photos.
If there’s still room in your knapsack, take along Andy Bezener’s Birds of Ontario.
This excellent guide from Lone Pine Press features helpful information about all the special birds you can find around Rainy River.
For example, read up on the Black-Billed Magpie, the Sharp-Tailed Grouse and the Yellow-Headed Blackbird, just to name a few!
Birders and gardeners alike will enjoy Sally Roth’s Bird-by-Bird Gardening.
Roth shows how you can bring different families of birds to your yard by following six key steps.
All these and hundreds of other brand new books are waiting for you at the Rainy River Public Library.
