In defense of Rainy River High School

Dear Editor,
I was reading last week’s issue of the Record and was appalled by the shrewd and overstated comments made about our local high school and it’s policies in a letter to the editor.
Singling individuals out and holding grudges is not even a shred of truth spoken about our school. I am a student in RRHS and I myself along with many others would put our reputation as a school up against any other school with confidence in any aspect, staff, behaviour of students (in the most part), and overall decency and fairness. Yet what is a school to do if obscenities and violent gestures towards staff and students become an everyday thing? Speaking your mind may be one thing, but there are limits.
Just like every person, the school has a line that can only be pushed so far till it is broken and can never be replenished with a student, that line was crossed a long time ago. When any student puts not only the staff in an uncomfortable position but also almost every other student that comes within 20 feet of the student what should be the reason to allow this student to participate in any school functions what-so-ever. The question will remain a simple one, should the welfare of the students, staff, and school environment be put in jeopardy for the satisfaction of one student who has never been singled out but has created a problem for attention. So before you believe ridiculous slanders of RRHS and its staff from someone who is not involved in anything involved with the school take it first hand from someone who is, Rainy River High School may not be the richest, or have the best of everything but the the students and staff do more here than most places around, they care.
–A proud local student,
Mat Ashworth
