Three individuals and one choir from the Rainy River/Stratton area will be receiving trophies at the Rainy River Festival Highlights Concert this upcoming Saturday evening.
On May, 8th at 6:30 pm, at the Townshend Theater in Fort Frances, the winners will be presented with their trophies just prior to participating in a concert that will showcase top performers from the Rainy River District Music Festival.
Locally the following will be honoured:
•Hailley Heyens (receiving the Clarence & Gertrude Bujold Family Award for Outstanding Achievement - Level 4 Piano Student)
•Norma Jean Johnston (receiving the Leighfield Trophy for the Best Adult Vocalist in the festival)
•Samantha Westover (receiving the Rose Marie Degagne Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement - Level 1 Piano Student)
•Riverview School Grade 3 Choir directed by Carolyn Kreger (Receiving the Lakeland Personnel Award for Best Massed choir, Grades K to 4))
“This is quite exciting and quite an accomplishment, especially for the two pianists who were in competition with a large number of other students to receive these awards,” said music teacher Stephanie Hawkins.
