Sturgeon Creek pair bring home regional science awards

2004 Science Fair’s held at both Sturgeon Creek and Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program schools provided Excellent displays.
Sturgeon Creek school students Mitchell Haw who took 1st place in the Junior Division in Life Science and Jared McQuaker placed 2nd in the Intermediate Division in Life Science at the Regional Science Fair in Kenora.
At Sturgeon Creek Alternative program the following results: Junior Division in Physical Science, Nicholas Olsen, Honourable Mention, Intermediate Division, Brandon Olsen 1st place, Dan McBride 2nd place, Andrew Friesen, 3rd place along with Kelsy Quibell, all in Physical Science. Brandon Olsen 2nd overall in Regional Fair and Dan McBride 3rd overall, both will go on to the National Science Fair in St. John’s Nfld representing our Board and the Sunset Country Region. Principal Don McBride said, “Way to Go!”
Other news - 1st annual chess tournament at S/C was a wonderful success, forty one children participated. Each person played 5 games ending with an awards ceremony on Friday April 22nd. Perfect scores were won by Kyle Caul, Dallas Jewett and Ian Enns. Best Sportsmanship was awarded to Justin Hands. Tournament results. Grade 1 - 1st RJ McDonald, 2nd Kennedy Williams, Jonah Johnson and Amber Hoszowksi. Grade 2 - 1sat Brett Man, 2nd Rylan Borger. Grade 3 1st Allan Elias. Grades 2,3,4 - 1st Kirk Johnson. 2nd Clinton Gray. Grad 4 - 1st Ian Enns, 2nd Cody Mason and Wendy Smith. Grade 5 - 1st Dallas Jewett, 2nd Ben Miller. Grade 6 -1st Kyle Caul. 2nd Brandan Pratt. Grade 7 - 1st Travis Borger. Grade 8 - 1st Ben Taylor, 2nd Tylor VanHeyst.
