Glen Crackel wins his fourth RR Open

Glen Crackel joined an elite group of individuals by winning the 28th Annual Rainy River Legion Open Golf Tournament on Monday.

Crackel won the Championship Flight with a score of 80 for the fourth time.

He won it in 1981, 82 and 91. Only his brother Guy and Bill Delvecchio have won it four times and no one has won it more times.

Glen beat out his brother Guy by one stroke and two other traditionally strong finishers Barry Lameoureux and Wally Duggan who tied for third with 82.

Winning for the ladies Championship was last years champion and multi year winner Cheryl Duggan. She had a score of 92. Coming in second was AngieArmstrong with 103 and Janeva Erickson with 115 came in third.

Most golfers said they had good mornings but the flighting this year was done on the second nine.

Mens 1st Flight

The best score of the tournament was in this flight and it was a 78 by Garry Noga. Coming in second was Jared Sinninghe with 82. Third went to Scott Aikenhead with 84.

Mens 2nd Flight

There was a three way tie. Jim Crackel said they had to go back four holes to count back and determine the order of the winners. Coming in first was Darren Armstrong with 90. Second was Dennis Kuzyk with 90 and in third was Trent Armstrong with 90.

Mens 3rd Flight

Chum Armstrong won with 92. Fred Sinninghe came in second with 94 and Reed

Armstrong came in third with 96.

Mens 4th Flight

Coming in first was Don Gale with 95. Second was Glen Armstrong and Scott Gale with 99.

Mens 5th Flight

First went to Jeff Marmus with 108. Second went to Vern Norlund with 111 and 3rd went to Scott Downs with 113.

Youth Division Kyle Kuzyk won with 116. Second was Bryce Marmus with 118 and third went to Gianathon Delvecchio with 121.

While the defending champion from last year, Derek Ewald, was unable to defend his title, organizers felt the event was a success with 62 golfers competing. Last year there was only 52 competing.
