Mark Hanson, 95
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Mark Hanson, passed away peacefully at the Rainy River Health Centre on May 7th, 2004 with his family by his side.
Mark was born on July 31st 1908, in Clemingston, Minnesota to Oscar and Anna Hanson. In 1913, Mark moved with his family to Morson, Ontario.
On November 16th, 1935, he married Margaret Johnson, his soul mate. Together they had two sons, Marvin (deceased) and Jerry.
Mark was fourteen years old when he started guiding on Lake of the Woods. He guided at various tourist camps in the area. In later years, Mark worked for 23 years as the Road Superintendent for the Township of Morson. During this time, Mark also helped Margaret with the family business known as “Hanson’s Cafe” for 12 years. Mark also operated his own gravel truck and was highly involved in building private roads for residents along lakeshore property throughout Morson Township.
Mark was characterized by his selflessness, hard work, and for his love of his family. Mark enjoyed the get-togethers with family and friends, fishing, watching local sports, playing cards, putting with his wood pile and sitting under his favorite tree feeding the birds.
Mark will be sadly missed by his wife Margaret, son Jerry (Joan) daughter-in-law Colleen (Marvin) and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. A private interment will take place at the Morson Cemetery at a later date.
