Only ten weeks to the centennial

Rainy River Centennial Committee

There is less than 10 weeks left until the big bash- Centennial Homecoming Weekend- inundates Rainy River with a virtual flood of visitors. Pre-registrations topped 1400 this past week bringing total attendance projections over the five-day celebration into the 10- 15,000 range. Registrants responding to their planned arrival and departure dates indicate the majority plan to be in the community for all five days and many are staying in the area for several days before and after the celebrations.
Preparations by your Centennial Committee are in their final stages. The Food Committee with Heidi Ivall and Bunny Gaudry are putting the finishing touches on one of the most important, and challenging tasks- making sure everyone gets fed. Independent, food vendor kiosks, church suppers, pancake breakfasts, giant steak fries, roast beef barbecues, and fish fries, as well as our local restaurants are some of the venues they are encouraging and coordinating. A complete Dining Guide is going to press in early June.
The Events Committee under Norma Elliott is having their last meeting this week before submitting their programme for printing, but work is far from over and won't be completed until the curtain falls on the last show.
Camping & R/V site registrations are available with the serviced lots on the waterfront now all committed, but lots of room still available at the Pines for campers and in the Mill Yard for R/Vs.
The Registration Centre will be set up in front of the Town office with packages being prepared as we speak.
What else? Instant teller machines, portable washrooms, the Big Tent, paving, tables & chairs, picnic tables, Town Beautification, Stump Art, Cardboard Boat Races, Fireworks, Volunteer Corps, flags, balloons, face paint, parking, security, history display, golf tournament, parade, signs, barricades... The list of chores completed, underway, and pending is long. The most important ingredient however, is YOU and your enthusiastic participation.
It'll be quite a party!
