Romeo, Romeo...

Rainy River High School's Owl Theatre put on another great production last week as Romeo and Juliet were center stage at the school. Romeo (Nadia Johnson), left, and Juliet (Nikki Dyck) are seen here during Wednesday's show. The play received rave reviews from all who saw it.

Alzheimer books donated

Lori Russell, right, presented Rainy River Library with books on Alzheimer's Disease last week. The books were purchased with money raised at the Linda Johnston Memorial Alzheimer Dinner in January. They can be signed out at the Rainy River Library. Accepting the donated books is RR Librarian Sheila McIntosh.
Russell is a Public Education and Awareness Coordinator with the Kenora/Rainy River Districts Alzheimer Society. A total of $650 in books on Alzheimers were purchased with the money and distributed across the Rainy River District.

Strawberry socializers

Ken and Pearl Mason, left, are seen here socializing with Dot Tolen at the annual Rainy River Hosptial Auxiliary Strawberry Social last Wednesday. The event drew good crowds and is a good fundraiser for the organization.

Angela Lee was recently inducted into the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Lee has garnered a score of OCAA awards both for curling and academic excellence. She is seen here with her hall of fame awards.

VIPs visit RR Legion

U.S. National Comander of the American Legion, Dave Rehbein, sixth from the left, visited both sides of the border when he made a stop at the American Legion in Baudette and then later that evening visited Rainy River's Legion. Action packed hosts!

Rainy River High School boys and girls teams played host for the first time to NORWOSSA qualifiers in soccer last Thursday and Friday. RRHS' Kenny Holmes, left, is seen closing in on a Sioux Lookout player. RR played Sioux Lookout twice and Red Lake once. The boys lost to SL 4-0 and tied them 0-0. The girls tied 1-1 and lost 1-0 to SL. The boys beat Red Lake 3-0 and the girls tied them 1-1. Next stop is Kenora where they will play St. Thomas Aquinas twice each and Red Lake once each.

Lost to fire

The Dawson and Rainy River Fire Depts. were called out to an out of control grass fire Sunday afternoon just north of Rainy River. An abandoned house was saved but a shed on the property was lost. It was a windy day and the fire moved quickly.
