This is Meals on Wheels week Volunteers key to service’s success

This Meals on Wheels Week.
Currently the Rainy River Meals on Wheels program is delivering about 10 meals per day to local residents in need. Coordinator Florence Newman said the 20+ year old program has come full circle from its beginnings. “We are back getting our meals from the hospital.”

Shhh! Don’t tell anyone -- Morson/Bergland Tower funding approved

It is probably one of the worst kept secrets in the region. Funding for the new broadband/cell towers in the Morson/Bergland has been unofficially approved.
About a month ago the word was told to citizens in that area that FedNor had approved about $400,000 for the project which would see the erection of two new towers, one in Bergland and one in Morson. However, no official announcement has yet been made from either FedNor or Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Ken Boshcoff.

Hampton wants parliament recalled over gas prices

With reports of gas prices reaching over $2 a litre in many parts of Ontario, NDP leader Howard Hampton called on Premier McGuinty to recall the Legislature and keep his promise to help ordinary families hurt by skyrocketing gas prices. Dalton McGuinty promised to protect consumers from unfair gas price gouging. Now, he is sitting idle while ordinary families are getting hosed at the pumps.” Hampton said.

Our first fall meeting was held at the home of Margaret Helder with seven members present. Summer volunteer hours were submitted for activities such as the June Bake Sale, July first children‚s activities at the hall, Bergland Fun Day, Emo Fair and museum activities.

Police conducting seatbelt blitz around region

The Ontario Provincial Police in conjunction with police services from across the province are gearing up for the 2005 Fall Seatbelt Campaign. Starting tomorrow and running until October 2nd, OPP officers will be conducting random stop checks to enforce and educate motorists on seat-belt use throughout the Rainy River District.
