October 17-24th is Canadian Library Week and the Rainy River Public Library has a whole slate of fun activities scheduled for the public to enjoy.
RRPL Board Chair Terri Anne Lundgren said things will kick off next Tuesday with a special musical guest (yet to be named) at the weekly kids story hour which runs at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday. It is free and geared towards preschoolers and kindergarten ages.

The time is now for public and businesses to tell the United States government how a proposal to make border crossers carry a passport will affect them.
The public has until October 31, 2005 to send in emails or written comments via mail to the US Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, the Department of Homeland Security, Bureau of Consular Affairs and the Dept. of State.

Rainy River Town Council approved the addition of a new volunteer firefighter Monday evening, but not before some questions by Councillor Ed Tymkin.
The new fireman, Mr. Earl Ivall, lives in Dawson Township and Tymkin questioned how many members of the department are from out of town.

The Rainy River and District Chamber of Commerce (RRDCC) met last Monday and one of their primary concerns was the state of the local economy.
It was decided that the public needs to be involved in addressing the concerns facing businesses and the community as a whole. So a public meeting will be held next Wednesday at the Rainy River Community Centre at 7 p.m.

While the majors are getting set to start their playoff season, the boys of summer from the Rainy River District Fastball League officially wrapped theirs up last Friday.
The annual RRDFL awards banquet was held in Stratton not only to honour the best of the 2005 season but those of the past also. Bryan Bonot and Randy Armstrong were inducted into the league hall of fame.

For those of you who suffer from hay fever, fall is not the best time of the year. Several of the plants which cause those miserable allergic reactions, bloom in the late fall. Among them are the ragweeds and the goldenrods.
