There were firemen from Dawson, RR, police and ambulance on the scene Monday/Tues. around midnight when Susan's Corner Store burned down.

Susan's Corner Store was gutted by fire late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Rainy River Fire Dept. was called to the scene just before midnight and later Dawson Township's fire dept. was called in to assist as the blaze grew in size. Most of the store was engulfed in flames by 1:00 a.m. There was no word of a cause and no one was believed to be injured at press time. –Ken Johnston photo

Over forty members from the ten Masonic Lodges of the Kenora and Rainy River Districts were in Rainy River Saturday, May 3 for there annual meeting. As part of their tradition of supporting the local community of the Western District’s Grand Master-this year Dan Johnson of Ionic 461 (Rainy River)- the lodges presented a cheque for $11,000 to Rainy River Health Centre Nurse Manager Tammy McNally.

Twenty women from across the Rainy River District gathered in Stratton for the annual meeting of the Women’s Institute. As well as education and advocacy on women’s issues the WI owns and operates their own museum in Emo as well as the Tourist Information Service there. They are moving into new facilities adjacent to the former Emo OPP Detachment building.

Kids had fun at the official opening of another Best Start hub in the Rainy River District in Stratton last Saturday. It is located in the Toy Library/Senior's Drop In Centre building on Hwy. 11.

It was hard to find the RR Trade Show with almost zero visibility, but 206 people did find it.
