For the second time in as many years the Rainy River and Dawson team of Tim Nordin, Dale Morrison, Dave Seguin and Dale Ossachuk have won the Northern Ontario Firefighters Curling Playdowns. They will make their second trip to the National Championships in Richmond, B.C. March 26th to Apr. 4th. Ken Kurz, Director of NOFFCA is seen far left presenting the team with their trophies Sunday in Fort Frances where the playdowns where held this year. See story in "Local News" on this website.

There was a small fire at Rainy River High School on Saturday morning around 9 a.m. The fire was in a shed on the northeast corner, the same place they had been to a fire about two years ago. The shed houses an air compressor outside the school's shop. It is thought that garbage in the shed may have ignited when left on or near a baseboard heater in the shed. The shed was a complete write off but there was no internal damage to the school.
