Kendra Moen and Lanie Krause wowed the audience with moves like these at the Rainy River Figure Skating Club's annual ice shows over the weekend. This year's theme was Blades of Magic.

4H honours!

Morgan Haw, right, received the prestigious DeGagne Award at the annual 4H banquet in Stratton last Friday. The award is presented to the 4H member who accumulates the greatest number of points in beef club over three years. Presenting the award was Jan Anderson of DeGagne Equipment.

Trailers lost to fire

Two trailers belonging to Wayne McCarthy of Rainy River, were lost to fire Sunday evening. Both Dawson and Rainy River Fire Depts. responded to the fires. The trailers were about 30 feet apart on the same piece of property. A fireman on the scene reported that McCarthy had set one of them on fire in an attempt to have a controlled burn. However, the fire unintentionally spread to the other trailer. Both were a total loss.

Students at Our Lady of the Way School in Stratton recently had a visit from a dog team and were able to learn about and ride behind the team.

Practise makes perfect

The 70+ members of the Rainy River Figure Skating Club have been very busy practising their routines for this weekend's upcoming ice shows at the Rainy River Arena, Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon (See ad on page four for times). 100th years young!

Gerda Peterson, center, flanked by her two sons, Duane and Ross, celebrated her 100th birthday on February 16, 2012 at Rainy River Health Centre. There were many friends and family in attendance. Family members travelled from BC, Alberta, Manitoba, southern Ontario and Ireland to attend the gala event held at the Rainy River hospital.

Regional team member

Kenzie Godin, 14, of Rainy River, has made the Region 1 under 14 Volleyball team. She will be competing at the Ontario Winter Games in early March at Collingwood, Ontario.

NORWOSAA Gold!

The Rainy River High School Owls Junior Girls Volleyball team won NORWOSSA Gold on Friday in Kenora! They are, Back Row: Danika Diebel, Coach Guy Arpin, Camille Johnson, Jenna Jarvis, Coach Georgina Jarvis and Alya Holmes. Front Row: Sara Gall, Skylar Arpin, Kenzie Godin and Myan Miller. The Jr. girls won in three sets 25-16, 25-22 and 25-8.
Sr Girls lost in three sets to Sioux Lookout . The Jr. Boys Basketball team lost to Kenora (Thomas Aquinas). in the semi final 30-49 .

Healthy fun!

As part of Rainy River Family Fun Day on Monday, Heidi Ivall of the Northwestern Health Unit taught kids how to make healthy snacks. In this photo they were making trail mix.
