Bronze medalist!

Hayley Arpin, 13, of Rainy River participated in the Western Canadian Team Badminton Championships over the weekend and came home with a bronze medal!

It's a girl!

The New Year’s Baby for 2012 is Elsie Faith Nighswander. She was born at La Verendrye Hospital on January 5th at 12:19pm weighing in at 7 lbs – 6 oz. Proud parents are David and Pauline of Barwick, Ontario. Proud big sister is Sylvia aged 3. David was also the New Year’s Baby 33 years ago, he was born in Emo.

Calling the shots

Trevor Bonot signalled to his brushers during the final of the NOCA Region 1 men’s playdowns last night at the Fort Frances Curling Club. Bonot’s rink edged Adam Bolen of Fort Frances 9-7 in an extra end to clinch a berth to the provincials next month in Sault Ste. Marie.

It's Alzheimer Month

Local Alzheimer volunteers and area First Link/Public Education workers presented RR Mayor Deb Ewald with the Alzheimer Flag to fly at the Town Hall for the month of January last week. Chairs for charity!

Tickets go on sale this week for several chairs having been painted by local artists. These two were painted by Patti Diebel, left, and Linda Watson, right, and will be raffled off at the annual Linda Johnston Memorial Alzheimer Dinner in Rainy River. January is Alzheimer Awareness Month.

Snowball fun!

Belle Holmes and Joewel Vanasse Cory, Sr. Kindergarten students, sing about snowballs and then at the end of the song the audience was pelted wtih them.
