This week I would like to offer up an update on the forestry industry in Canada and Ontario. Unfortunately, new data shows that in 2011 employment in the forestry sector in both jurisdictions declined for the sixth consecutive year under the “leadership” of the Harper government.
According to Natural Resources Canada (http://www.cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/statsprofile/overview/ca), the number of people employed in the forestry sector in Canada has declined each year from 2005 to 2011.

In winter you can always turn up the heat or put on more clothing to get warm.

Just before Queen’s Park recessed for the summer Bill 8, popularly known as Ontario One Call, passed third and final reading and received Royal Assent a few days later. Included in the bill was an amendment I successfully put forward that ensures many of the jobs that will come as a result of this bill, will be located in Northern Ontario.

Every so often a person or an event reminds us of something that is important, but not always top of mind. This week a person and an event reminded me that we need to abolish the unelected and unaccountable Senate.
