The RRHS Owls Senior Badminton team captured 1 Gold and 2 Silver medals at the NWOSSAA championships in Atikokan on Wednesday April 18th.
In doing so the team helped out their own cause by leading Team NORWOSSA to the NWOSSAA team title.

For the second time in a year the Herman Krahn family is having to rebuild a portion of their family farm.
Located about half a mile off Hwy. 11 on Atwood Road #2, the Krahn dairy and beef farm lost its milking barn with all of its dairy cattle inside Thursday afternoon.

Rainy River Town Council held a busy meeting last Tuesday, a day later than normal, due to the Easter holidays.
Library needs new home
The first item on the agenda was a visit from Rainy River Public Librarian Penny Shumaker. She presented council with the libary’s annual budget which has gone up from $44,045 in 2006 to $45,898. Shumaker said the taxpayers will not be asked for any more than the annual $30,000 they gave last year. “We have some fund raising to do but we think we can do it.”

In an effort to put more “teeth” into the regulation of dog ownership in Rainy River, town council passed a new dog bylaw last Tuesday.
Utilizing language from the Animals for Research Act, Public Health Act, Dog Owners’ Liability Act and the Municipal Act, Section 103, council in effect gave the Animal Enforcement Officer the right to issue tickets under the Provincial Offenses Act allowing the courts to deal with violators in Rainy River.

In this week’s Record there is a flyer from Norwest Mobility announcing that they will be phasing out analog cell phone service in the region.
However, analog users in the Rainy River District need not panic as of yet. Katie Crowe, Marketing Director with Thunder Bay Telephone, said Monday that they are going to phase out analog gradually and the Rainy River District is not on the slate for at least the rest of 2007.

Competing at NORWOSSA this last Wednesday in Kenora with 16 players, was no small feat for the Rainy River Owls badminton team. The eight Juniors and eight Seniors who had qualified just before Easter were one of the largest squads ever to represent RRHS at the NORWOSSA Badminton Championship.

On Wednesday April 11 the RRHS Owls won the SR Badminton NORWOSSA Team Championship for the first time ever. Points are awarded to each individual team for how well they finish in their event at the NORWOSSA Tourney. There are 6 teams in each of the 5 categories and points are awarded as follows 1st = 10pts, 2nd = 8pts, 3rd = 6pts, 4th = 4pts, 5th = 2pts and 6th =1pt. All of the points are added up at the end of the tourney to determine a SR Champ and a JR Champ.
