There were laughs, applause and tears shed at the annual Canadian National Railway retirement party in Rainy River over the weekend.
Three men and their spouses were the guests of honour. Ralph and Deb Armstrong, Leland and Pam Westover and Doug and Burdella Stein all sat at the head table.

To commemorate the 20th year of the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Ride for Heart in Toronto, the charity’s CEO Rocco Rossi decided to do some thing really big to mark the milestone. He chose to ride a bicycle 1,900 km down the longest street in the world, Yonge Street.

‘Martha’ got sick caring for her husband before she realized she needed it; ‘Jacqueline’ didn’t know it existed until three months after the long, devastating journey of caring for her husband; and ‘Frank’ doesn’t know what he would have done without it. The ‘it’ is hospice palliative care. Caring for a loved one at the end of their life is one of the most difficult things a family or informal caregiver has to face. It can be made easier, with proper Advance Care Planning, a process by which patients and their health care professional(s) discuss a patient’s wishes about their health care choices at the end-of-life.

Terri Anne Lundgren has officially been named the Branch Manager for the Rainy River Northern Lights Credit Union.
Lundgren, 34, has been at the branch for nearly 10 years, starting as a Member Services Representative when the newly built branch opened its doors in October of 1997. It was not long after she started that she began taking courses and training to move up the ladder at NLCU. In 1998 she took her first lending course and in no time she was handling personal loans and mortgages.

Hillary Hansen and Chantel Heyens have won an Antique Bronze Medal at the OFSAA Badminton Championships in Waterloo. The 2 girls record at the tournament was 1-4 but it was good enough for 4th place in the C flight to win their medal.
