Nordin rink just misses the podium at firefighters nationals

The Rainy River/Dawson volunteer fire departments were really well represented at the National Curling Championships in Thunder Bay last week.
Tim Nordin, Dale Morrison, Dave Seguin and Dale Ossachuk just missed the playoffs losing in a tie-breaker on Friday to Alberta leaving them with a fourth place finish.

The Easter Bunny will come early for the kids of Rainy River and Baudette this weekend.
In Rainy River the first ever Chamber of Commerce Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Hannam Park this Saturday from 11a.m. to 1 p.m.

Every November 11th Canadians pause to remember those that gave the supreme sacrifice for our freedom.
For decades the Canadian Legion has spearheaded those Remembrance Day ceremonies and also coordinated several other programs like the poppy program.

The Tim Nordin Rink was 2-1 after four draws at the National Hydrant (Firefighters) Championship in Thunder Bay on Sunday.

His rink of Dale Morrison, Dave Seguin and Dale Ossachuk, are representing N. Ont. and defeated Alta. 11-4 and PEI 9-4, had a bye and lost to Que 13-5.

Lightning fast internet strikes as system powered up

Last week all four of the new broadband towers were officially turned on in the west end of the Rainy River District, effectively providing affordable wireless high speed internet to Barwick, Burditt, Bergland, Deerlock, Morson and Pinewood areas. The new towers also saw consumers in Rainy River and Fort Frances benefit from lower prices for the service which was already available there.

Sewer system to get fixed: Province approves $2.25 million for long needed upgrades in Rainy River

Late Friday afternoon the Town of Rainy River received the best news it has heard in years.
The provincial government notified the community that it has approved $2.25 million in funding for the town to fix its long time sewer system problem that has seen the community’s hands tied when trying to grow in any way.
