From 60 kids competing for the Lake of the Woods Schools track teams emerged 15 who travelled to compete in Sections over the weekend. Of those, four Rainy River kids participated in the competitions that would determine who goes to State (equivalent of the All Ontarios).

For the second time in as many years, the residents of Pinewood were rocked by gun fire Sunday morning when a teenage boy was allegedly shot by Lorenzo Lolli, 64, of Pinewood.
The teenager was hit in the head by a bullet and is recovering from non-life threatening injuries in the Rainy River Hospital.
Lolli was charged with Attempted Murder and Production of a Controlled Substance. He is being held in custody until a bail hearing which is scheduled for June 7, 2001.
