Parade of boats... or is it canoes?!

Team 78, Darryl Dyck, seen here driving the truck, and Barry Mitchell, not pictured, have taken a new approach to the tournament... they apparently are fishing in a non-motorized canoe for the tournament... or were they just pulling our leg during the boat parade which took place Thursday in Rainy River to kick-off the 14th Annual RRWT. To see all the boat parade photos use this link: http://rainyriverrecord.com/image/tid/96 or click on the RRWT Boat parade 2012 gallery on this site.

Alzheimer touch quilts

Last week local volunteers for the Kenora-Rainy River Alzheimer Society put special touch quilts in local businesses and other public buildings. They were made by local quilters like Geraldine Blight, above, who made 12 of them. They are used to help by offering sensation of touch for people suffering with Alzheimer Disease. Each features different textures of fabric, buttons, zippers, etc. The quilts were displayed around town on Friday as part of World Alzheimer Awareness Day. All of them will be on display Oct. 11, 2012 at the Seniors Activity Depot in the old CN Station.

Not much left

By last Monday evening all that was left of the 109 year old CN Hotel was a pile of rubble. The town crew lifted debris exposing hot spots for firefighters to dowse. The view has definitely changed with the Credit Union now being visible from Main St.

Last spirits

This 26 oz. bottle of Alberta Premium was pulled from the rubble at the CN Hotel last Monday evening. However, it is believed to be from one of the tenants belongings as the hotel usually stocked 40 oz. bottles. Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
