Well, it's not only us that get sick. Thousands of other animals, birds, plants, insects and even bacteria get sick, too.

Woes for veterans

When the New Veterans Charter was launched nearly eight years ago, we were hopeful it would be a step in the right direction for our nation’s veterans. Upon its launch, Stephen Harper guaranteed that “in the future, when our servicemen and women are to leave our military family, they can rest assured the Government will help them and their families’ transition to civilian life.” Years have passed, yet it appears this revolutionary document has fallen short in providing our veterans with the treatment they deserve.

Snow can be beautiful

There are times when I really enjoy snow. In the darkness of night, fat snowflakes drifting through the streetlights and covering the ground with a blanket of soft white wool is a beautiful sight. Lest we forget Dorothy Chambers

I was very saddened to hear last week that we lost Dorothy Chambers. Dorothy was a well-known and well-loved resident in Thunder Bay, and was best known as a proud veteran and advocate for men and women serving our country in uniform, past and present. As we enter Remembrance Week in Canada it only seems to appropriate to remember Dorothy in this week’s column – an excerpt of her own life story via www.thememoryproject.com
