Letter to the editor,
I just wanted to let the swine who left the kitten on my property that by the time I found it, it was too weak to survive.

Way to go scumbag.

Cats should also be governed by a bylaw

Letter to the editor,
I would like to address a major issue that seems to be on many peoples minds. CATS why is there bylaws for dogs but not cats. Being a non-pet owner, I have a garden that might as well be the community litter box.

Take a tour of beautiful RR

Letter to the editor,
I want to express how wonderful the growing beauty of our community is. Rainy River’s beautification committee should really take a bow for encouraging and fostering neat yards, green lawns and beautiful flowers.

Great Beaver boat race another huge success

Letter to the Editor,
On behalf of the Great Beaver Cardboard and Duct Tape Boat Race Committee of the Rainy River Recreation Board, we were delighted with the very successful completion of another year celebrating this Fun Family Event. Although the number of entrants was down this year, everyone still had a great time and our participants put on a spectacular show as evidenced by the broad smiles and gales of laughter.

Disappointed

Letter to the Editor,
Recently we were at Lake of the Woods on vacation and I ventured into town one day.
What a disappointment to see the main street of the town where I grew up. On the West of side of Main Street (4th Street) I discovered that there were more empty buildings between Broadway Avenue and Atwood Avenue than there were full.

Whatever happened to childhood?

Dear Editor:
I just had to comment upon the statement in a recent letter to the editor: “My child has just completed the playschool program and I feel that it has prepared her for junior kindergarten.”

Please do not report on such topics

Letter to the Editor
I understand that many people are talking about getting surveillance cameras and whatnot for the park and the rec centre. But my question is what good does it do if the perpetrators know that they are there? Will it not just add more aspect of thrill to their disgraceful acts of violence? I do not think that this should be public knowledge; it will likely have more of an effect if there is an element of surprise when the perpetrators are caught in the act and do not know where the cameras are, if there are any at all. It is most likely that the vandals are from the town and it is also likely that their parents read the papers and they may even possibly relay important things such as the “Our View” column to their children. Therefore I am asking you to please not report on such topics as it could be detrimental rather than helpful to the town, which I do not think is the intention of the article in this week’s column.

Reasons for talk of closing playschool

Letter to the editor,
As President of the Rainy River Playschool Inc, Board, I am writing back in response to the letter submitted to your paper June 19 in regards to the closure of playschool. First off I want to state that no decision has been made as of yet, and yes it has been talked about, but it was talked about at a Playschool Board meeting. What is discussed at these meetings is supposed to be discussed in confidence. Both the board and the employees of RR Playschool Inc. are bound by a confidentiality agreement. We appreciate the public’s concern as to the future of the Rainy River Playschool program. We as a volunteer board understand the importance of these programs both to the children and their families. The Rainy River Playschool Inc. Board is a volunteer Board that governs the Playschool Program that runs Mondays and Thursdays, October thru May, 9:30 am to 11:30am, The Learn, Laugh and Play Childcare Centre which operates year around Monday to Friday 7:00am - 5:30pm, and the Ontario Early Years Centre/Family Resource Program which operates various hours throughout the week, year around.
