Despite rumours to the contrary Rainy River Mayor Glen Armstrong will be completing his term in office, which will expire in early December when a new council and mayor is sworn in.

It has been a week of surprises at the Rainy River District Fastball League Playoffs.
The top two teams were both beaten by the third place team, Barwick and in Rainy’s case twice.

West Nile shows its ugly head in region again

The Northwestern Health Unit would like to advise the public that West Nile Virus positive mosquitoes have been identified from a trap in the Dryden area. This the first documented case of WNV positive mosquitoes in the Kenora and Rainy River Districts. There has never been any cases of West Nile Virus infection of humans in the Northwest and th risk of becoming seriously ill as a result of infection with the West Nile Virus remains extremely low.

Former RR Horticultural society helps Pumpkin Festival grow

One organization wilted and died officially last week but gave another a huge injection of life.
The Rainy River Horticultural Society (RHS) gave up trying to recruit new members after years of trying. RHS’s last act was to decide who to donate their bank account too. They decided to give the balance, $1,640.35 to the Rainy River Valley Giant Pumpkin Festival.

Morson Bass Tourney time Many changes on tap this year

It is bass bustin time in Morson!
Morson Bass International (MBI) chairman Tony Gill said that things are going really good for the 2nd Annual MBI, scheduled for Aug. 19-20, 2006.
The MBI has undergone some big changes this year most notably is the resizing of the event from a three day fishing tournament to two days.

RR wins first game

It is playoff season in the Rainy River District as fastball teams vie for the RRDFL crown.
They began last Thursday with four games being played. League champs, Sight and Sound from Fort Frances played 8th place Sabaskong and won 6-1.
