Tai Chi is great for all ages

On Monday July 17th a very significant event will begin in Northwestern Ontario. It is the International Forum on Taijiquan. Now there are many spellings but we all refer to Tai Chi as a martial arts system of self-defence and health. People from 5 to 95 can practice. I myself have trained in a couple of the styles and can attest to the many benefits.

The Black Tern is one of the few terns which we have here in Northwestern Ontario. It is primarily an inland bird which breeds mainly on inland marshes, small lakes and rivers. It is fairly common all across the eastern part of North America.

A meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at which any taxpayers could view the town ‘s 2006 budget and ask questions of council. However, other than the media, no one attended.

The Tree of the North - Paper Birch

This is the famous white tree of the Boreal Forest. It is often called the White Birch, or Canoe Birch. It is the tree which the natives used for their canoes, fabled in song and story. They also made baskets out of the bark, and cups and pails. Some also used bark to cover wigwams in the winter.

Sight and Sound squeaks out a win against Rainy

The top two teams in the league met in Rainy River last Tuesday as Rainy River hosted Sight and Sound of Fort Frances.
It was a pitcher’s dual most of the game with Murray Armstrong (RR) and John Desaulniers (FF) both having stellar nights.

Our luncheon meeting had 22 members present. After saying Grace, we all enjoyed a very delicious meal, catered by Chester Fried Chicken. Thank you girls. Following this we had our regular meeting.

School board short $1 million in cash

The extra $600M injected into the Ontario education system in the recently released provincial budget will seriously impact the Rainy River District School Board and other Northern Boards. In actual fact, the Rainy River District School Board is faced with a funding loss of $1M, due to the Ministry’s allocation of funding from specific grant structures which will be transferred to the School Foundation Grant and the Salary Benchmark Grant.

Our monthly board meeting was held on June 25. 12 members were present . 4 birthday cards and 1 sympathy card were signed. The minutes & financial report from the last meeting were read and accepted.
