Critters abound in the woods/from page eight

Everybody knows some of the animals which live in the forest. Deer, moose, wolves, squirrels. And we know about the eagles, the osprey, and the herons. And we know about some of the insects, too - mostly about the ones which bother us, like mosquitoes, black flies, and those little tiny no-see-ums.

Quite by chance, Corrie and Janice Wiersema of Rainy River found a link to home half way around the world. But it was not just any link, it was a link to World War II.

Aggressive culling is sometimes needed

In some regions of Ontario forage is plentiful. In other areas, herds were pulled off pasture in August and have been on hay since then. We are probably somewhere in between the two. When feed is limited and hay is expensive, you may need to do aggressive culling in your herd.

The Lake of the Woods Township Council met on Friday, Nov. 4th at Bergland with Mayor V. Pizey, Councillors T. Sepers, B. Lundgren, J. Moen, C. Fadden and Clerk-Treasurer P. Giles present. There were no delegations on the agenda so council went right to the regular business.
