Additional deer tags available again this year

In addition to the regular draw, additional game seals for deer will be available again this year in northwestern Ontario. The phone-in for additional seals begins on August 8th.

Rainy River Town Council held its regular monthly meeting this past Monday and first order of business was to swear in new councillor Dean Wiersema.
Wiersema will serve the remainder of Larry Armstrong’s term, who resigned earlier this year.

RRHS vandalized Saturday Police arrest one youth

While school’s been out for the summer, someone decided it was time to go back in early Saturday morning at Rainy River High School.
At least one, and possibly several culprits, broke into RRHS in the early morning hours Saturday and caused extensive damage to the interior of the building. No value of the damage had been determined as of press time.

Second annual Bergland Family Fun Day is this Sunday

The wheels are in motion for the 2nd Annual Bergland Family Fun Day to be held on August 14th in beautiful downtown Bergland. Last year’s Bergland Family Fun Day was a phenomenal success with the members of that community raising more than $4400.00 for cancer cure. Friends and neighbours enjoyed watching crazy people get their heads shaved and they listened to music by Leonard Larsen and Hwy 621 old time band, while others walked the walk around the block.

About two dozen people, mostly Americans, met at the Lake of the Woods Government Building Saturday with U.S. Senator Norm Coleman about the impending new laws requiring both US and Canadian citizens to carry a passport.
