Rainy River Junior Curlers had to hold their annual wind up on Sunday without any curling! The extremely warm temps caused the ice plant to break down. However, members gathered and had some fun at the club. Kenzie Godin of Rainy River recently competed in the Ontario Winter Games as part of a regional volleyball team. They played nine games, but did not win any. Her mom, Stacy, said the experience was excellent and the competition steep as many teams there play together all the time.

Temperature records have been shattered day after day this past week as can be seen on this thermometer in Rainy River on Sunday! Despite the warm temperatures the Rainy River has not made an early exit in front of the community as of yet. River watchers attribute this to the low water levels and slow current. At last report it was out just east of Pinewood on Sunday.

Alvin and Betty Hagarty of Rainy River recently congratulated their Granddaughter Amy Cizmer of Thunder Bay on winning a bronze medal at the Special Olympics National Winter Games in Jasper, AB, on Feb. 27, 2012.

The Rainy River High School Girls curling team recently won NORWOSSA Silver medals and that earned them a spot at NWOSSAs in Sioux Lookout last week where they again won silver. The Fort Frances team, Sweet Caroline, defeated Sioux Lookout in an eight team men's hockey tournament in Rainy River over the weekend. They won $2,200.
