Bird House Carpenters

Students in grades 1-3 and 7-8 worked together to build birdhouses on Friday, April 27. Mr. Henry Miller provided the supplies and instruction on how to complete them and how to install them to be effective and welcoming. The Grade 4, 5 and 6 students will build their birdhouses on Thursday, May 3rd. Shown above are Grades 1 & 3 students with completed birdhouses.

Assessing the future

Rolland Morrison of Rainy River is seen here talking to Caroline Burgess of Rainy River Resources about the impact the mine will have on the environment. He asked whether any water flows through the area where the mine will be. Burgess said the Pinewood River does and that is all covered in the draft terms of reference for the Environmental Assessment.

Men's Champ!

Bruce Kelley, right, won the Spruce Creek Golf Course Spring Swing tournament May 26th with a score of 86. Pat Gibbins came in 2nd with 88. Course employee Hillary Hansen presented him with his prize money.

Rare bird

Very rare in Ontario, this Marbled Godwit turned up May 21 along Byrnes Road in Dawson Township. Mainly birds of the Prairies, a few Marbled Godwits usually appear in the Rainy River area each year.

Ladies champ!

Lena Copenace right, won the Ladies title at the Spruce Creek Golf Course Spring Swing tournament May 26th with a score of 90. She also won the longest drive contest. Don Tolen won closest to the pin. Hillary Hansen is seen presenting her with her prize money.

RRHS Owls Girls Soccer team won NWOSSAs in Chapleau, Ont. on Friday. RRHS wins gold!

The Rainy River High School Girls team won NORWOSSA gold last week in RR when they defeated Sioux Lookout 3-0 to get in the finals against Red Lake who they beat 4-0! They travel to NWOSSAs this Thursday in Chapleau.
They play the best of three Friday and Saturday!
