Hotel evacuated

Last Tuesday at lunch time the CN Hotel in Rainy River reported a gas leak. Patrons and staff were all safely evacuated by the Rainy River Fire Dept. It was determined that pilot lights on two stoves had gone out in upstairs appartments. No one was hutr and the problem was rectified.

Life Members

The Rainy River Hospital Auxiliary named seven new life members at its regular meeting this past Monday. Spellbinding guest reader

Northwest Catholic District School Board Director Mary-Catherine Kelly was the guest of honour at Our Lady of the Way School (in Stratton) last Wednesday evening as they held a Family Literacy event. Kelly read aloud "The Widow's Broom" to kids and parents.

Fund raising performance!

The Borderland Orchestra returned to Rainy River for the first time in two years to help the Rainy River Public Library fund raise last Tuesday evening. About 100 people attended and helped make the event a success.

Getting ready for the big day!

School kids throughout the area have been receiving glow sticks to wear when they go trick or treating on October 31st. On Monday Riverview School in Rainy River was visited. The students listened to a 15 minute presentation on Halloween Safety and how to use the glow sticks effectively. Family and Childrens Services Representative Bob McGreevy, left, and O.P.P. Const. Meeting called

RR Curling Club members or anyone else for that matter are encouraged to attend a meeting this Thursday at the Rainy River Curling Club to discuss options for the facility. It is hoped that it can be kept open and executive members are looking for ideas to make that happen.

Where the buffalo roam no more

Bison have become a familiar sight in the fields (and on the roads) northwest of Rainy River over the past two decades. Soon that will all end as North End Farms Ltd. winds down its Bison Ranching operation over the next few weeks and months. An auction sale of equipment is anticipated early next year.
