Cyclamen-A great flowering houseplant

Did you receive a Cyclamen has a holiday gift? The Cyclamen is a small but diverse genus of plants. Many species are hardy, and grow in the wild in the tropical areas of the Mediterranean and North Africa. When grown in their natural habitat, Cyclamen persicum bloom in late winter or early spring. In our area, the Cyclamen is offered to us to grow as a houseplant and are often found in the fall and winter at our local florists. Because of this, greenhouse grown Cyclamen are usually forced to bloom sometime around the Christmas holiday season and into the late winter.

Building an abattoir for Rainy River District has been discussed off and on for years, but the most recent plan was proposed at a public meeting in Barwick last Wednesday night—and it was stated this could be the last chance for the project.

The weather was perfect for the 17th annual Bergland Pokerama Saturday. There was a light dusting of snow in the morning and the sun peaked out to make for a great ride in the poker rally that afternoon.

14 members came to our regular February meeting. We opened by all reading the Auxiliary prayer, followed by all reading the minutes of the last meeting, and Heather Anderson giving the financial report.

Continued success with seedlings

By now you have your seedlings started and they are growing successfully. With a few more tips, you will get the best from these seedlings so when you plant them outdoors you will have strong plants that will get a jump on the gardening season.
Now that the seedlings are growing and the outdoor temperatures have warmed up and the sun has increased in intensity, your seedlings may dry out quickly.

LoW council looks at buying plow rather than renting graders

The Lake of the Woods Township Council held their regular meeting on Feb.7 with Mayor Pizey, Councillors J. Moen, C. Fadden, B. Lundgren and T. Sepers, Clerk-Treasurer P. Giles and Road Supt. E. Pearson present.They met at 6pm for an in-camera session to discuss personnel and financial matters. The meeting was open at 6:55pm.

The Rainy River High School Boys Curling Team went undefeated at the NORWOSSA curling championships last week in Dryden.

The overwhelming feeling at a public meeting last Wednesday was that the Little Street rail crossing should remain open.
30 people attended the meeting held by Rainy River Town Council all of which but two were residents living north of the railway tracks.
