Picking the perfect potato to plant

Most gardeners don’t give a second thought to planting potatoes. Many just grab whatever seed potato variety is left at the local gardening supply store and then just throw them in the ground. The most thrifty of gardeners don’t even buy seed potatoes but use the potatoes from their pantry that have started to sprout. Almost everyone enjoys the first ‘baby’ potatoes from the garden later in the season.

Dealing with conflict and stress

Conflict and stress are a natural part of the human condition. As parents and educators, we have a responsibility to teach our children and students how to deal with these emotions in a positive way. Within the school environment, conflict between adults and students, and conflict between students develops for a variety of reasons. If staff and students have developed the tools to deal with conflict at the lowest level, we can avoid having a seemingly minor issue develop into a major dispute that might eventually lead to physical violence.

“Journey to the East” production set to run at RRHS

Thirty-two high school students make up the cast of “Journey to the East”, a dramatic production of three Chinese folk tales and three traditional Chinese dances. The play will be performed at RRHS for over 300 elementary and junior high students in a matinee on Wednesday, May 25. Evening public performances are Thursday, May 26 at 7:00 p.m. and a dinner theatre evening on Friday, May 27 at 6:00 p.m. The dinner is a Chinese buffet catered by Mom‚s restaurant.

The RRDFL will begin play May 17th with 9 teams in the league again this season.
Rainy River, Pinewood, Big Island, Big Grassy, Stratton, Barwick, Sabaskong, Red Gut Bay and 2 time defending league and playoff champion Sight and Sound will be vying for the league championship.

Fighting a good fight.
The Mayor of Rainy River, Glen Armstrong, spent much of the weekend doing just that after receiving word last week that Rainy River’s application for funding from the province and federal government for the much needed upgrades to the town’s ailing sewer system was rejected.
