Last month brought a lot of rainfall and cool days. This led to questions about how much nitrogen was lost from the soil – or the real question, “How much extra fertilizer should I apply to keep from losing yield?” This question cannot be answered precisely, since many variables enter the picture, but OMAD Soil Fertility Specialist Keith Reid can make some educated guesses.

Les Rouge Rogues of Rainy River started the year with a bang, as red balloons popped at our 6th anniversary party. The banquet room at the Roadside Restaurant was tense as friendly competitors Lady La Tea Da (Dawn Jarvis) and Lady Annabelle, Woman of Note ( Anne Mailloux) competed for the most hearts play down. Dawn made quick work of getting Anne to use the word ‘I”, thus receiving the biggest prize, The Red Hat Society book by Sue Ellen Cooper herself.

Science fiction has become reality at Rainy River Health Centre with the unveiling of the new Telemedicine station there last Thursday.
Joining more than 100 other stations the two way video conferencing centre allows patients to have appointments with specialists who may be hundreds of miles away without having to travel.

If you had to select just one word to sum up the 2005 Emo Walleye Classic, it would be “big.”
As in big turnout. The fourth-annual EWC boasted a full field of 60 teams for the first time while spectators packed the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre to take in the daily weigh-ins and other festivities.

Rainy opens fastball season with a win

The Rainy River Legion fastball team started their season off with a 5-0 victory over Red Gut Bay last Tuesday in Rainy River.
For the first two and a half innings it was a pitcher’s dual. It was scoreless until the bottom of the third when the wheels fell off Red Gut’s pitching. Dan Usiski, Jr., started things off with a walk. Nick Ashworth then hit a perfect bunt to advance Usiski to second and get himself to first.
