Local kids became the benefactor of a big donation by the Rainy River Legion, Major Hughes, Br. 54 last week. Legion President, Walter Wagner, right, presented Recreation Director, Kam Kuzyk, with a cheque for $2,000 to pay for open ice time for local kids! Every year the Rec. Board asks organizations, businesses and individuals to donate ice time for kids.

Well known Rainy River District Farmer, Kim-Jo Bliss is one of the many "Faces of Farming" to be featured in a calendar. In 2013, she was recognized by beef industry for her involvement and was nominated to be a face in the 2014 Faces of Farming calendar where she represents the month of September as seen at right.

The Borderland Orchestra gave a free performance in Rainy River on Sunday. It was held at Rainy River High School and a free will collection was taken up to raise money for Chem Free Grad 2014. The event raised over $1,000 for the grads and a packed house enjoyed the music!

Last week a large construction crane was busy raising walls and rafters as a new salt shed is being constructed at the former Ministry of Transportation patrol yard for use by highway maintenance company Transfield.

Staff members at Riverview School in Rainy River were the top local achievers in the challenge! Last Wednesday Krista Anderson of NWHU presented them with a plaque in recognition of their efforts. Fr. l. to r., Krista Anderson, Lucinda Meyers, Melanie Williams, Melissa Nordin, Andrea Bodnar and Deb Ross. Locally other than Riverview staff, the Northern Lights Credit Union, The Town of RR and Big Grassy all participated in the challenge.
