Modern Day Voyageurs!

Students from Lakehead University's Outdoor Recreation program completed their course this past week or so by retracing the former trade routes of the voyageurs. They were in Rainy River Friday evening and then stayed at Oak Grove Camp on the weekend, the former sight of the Hungry Hall. That was the last big facility before the fur traders would head out on the big lake. The modern voyageurs are seen here leaving Oak Grove Monday heading for Lake of the Woods.

Hoisting a lunker!

Chad Hanson, left, and Terry Gill, were the last team to weigh-in on Day 2 of the Morson Bass International Sunday. Being the top team from Day 1, they were held back to create suspense and boy did they ever! The team that unseated them last year, Pat Handorgan and Pat Gibbins, sat poised to do it again. However, with five fish like the one seen here, Hanson/Gill were able to stave them off and capture their fifth MBI title. To see all the MBI pics click on PHOTOS (at left) and open the MBI 2013 gallery.
