The Always Yonge-Right to Play fundraising bike ride from Rainy River to Toronto began last Wednesday. Royal Canadian Legion President Walter Wagner, center, presented Ryan Malfara, Lynn Moffatt and Tanya Casole-Gouveia, with a cheque for $1,000 towards their $25,000 goal. All the money raised will go to the Right to Play Charity which helps fund activities for kids to play around the world. Casole-Gouveia, Malfara and Moffatt pose by the Yonge St. sign in front of the RR Town Office. Hwy. 11 is also commonly referred to as Yonge St., once the longest street in the world. Shortly after they began their 1,896 km, 12 day journey down Yonge St. to raise money for Right to Play. Students from Migisi Sahgaigan (Eagle Lake) Elementary School (Near Dryden), visited Manitou Mounds, Barwick Museum and Rainy River's Railway Museum and went bird watching in RR late last week.

Rainy River's Catholic Women's League celebrated its 60th birthday this past Sunday. Several service pins were also presented to long time members including Bernice Olinyk, left, who is a charter member and has 60 years of service. She was presented her pin by current CWL President Rachel Marquis.

While the local fire dept. has been called to Heritage House in Rainy River many times for false alarms, the one last Thursday was likely a first. When the Town turned the newly intalled water line on for the block it caused a momentary pressure drop for Heritage House which triggered an alarm summoning the fire dept.
