Busy Day!

On Friday, February 1st, students and staff of Our Lady of the Way School held a “multi-purpose” celebration which included Literacy Day, Fun Fitness Friday, and celebrating of Catholic values. Seen here are teacher Mrs. Lisa Latimer who dressed as one of the “Three Little Pigs” and Luke Bird and Jevonte Phillips who are buddy reading together. Students also participated in fitness activities that had a “fairy tale theme”, as part of our Fun Fitness Friday activities

Great Dinner!

Bob and Vivian Locking were among the sold out crowd that enjoyed the 9th Annual Alzheimer's Dinner in Rainy River two Saturday's ago. The final tally came in just under $3,000 at $2,977.00 of monies raised for the Kenora-Rainy River Society. This was slightly above the previous year's fundraiser!

Chairitable Chairs!

Marilyn McAlister of Rainy River won one of the beautifully painted Chairs for Charity at the 9th Annual RR Alzheimer's Linda Johnston Memorial Dinner Saturday. She is seen here, left, receiving the chair, painted by Vivian Locking, from Kenora-RR Alzheimer Society Exec. Director Lynn Moffatt. The Chairs for Charity raffle raised a record $687 this year! Other winners were: Rocking chair-Gregg Armistead, Cradle/kid's rocker-Andre Bremault and Kids potty chair-Holly Hanson. Watch next week's paper for a full wrap on how much the dinner as a whole raised.

Speaking of Forage

Barry Potter, of OMAFRA, spoke to the members of the Rainy River Cattlemen's Association at their Annual General Meeting last Thursday in Stratton. He did a presenation on the importance of Quality Testing of Forage.

Alzheimer volunteers recognized

Marlene McNally, left, one of the founders of the annual Alzheimers Linda Johnston Memorial Dinner received a certificate of appreciation for her nine years of volunteer service from Kenora-Rainy River Alzheimer Society Executive Director Lynn Moffatt this past Saturday.

Parliamentary visit

Riverview Elementary School's grade 4/5 class had a visit from local federal Member of Parliament John Rafferty on Monday. The class has been studying various facets of government and invited M.P. Rafferty to speak to the class about how government functions. Every student had an opportunity to ask questions of him on everything from what an M.P. does to how governments work. Rafferty, left, is seen here anwsering some of those questions.

Chairs for Charity

It is that time of year again! The time of year where local artists donate their talents to paint old chairs with beautiful themes to raise money for Alzheimer's programs in the region. Seen here are two done by Vivian Locking of McInnes Creek. Locking has done chairs for the cause for many years! Tickets are now available at the Rainy River Legion and the Record Office. Two more items are expected from artist Patti Diebel!
