Traveling to Winnipeg is not new to most people living in the Rainy River area.
However, over the weekend I took my fiancee and her two kids to the city to roast my brother Pete who turns 40 today!

Sunday night I awoke in the middle of the night to see a flashing of lights off the walls.
It was coming from behind my house, or so I thought!

Water rates were front and center last week.
Several citizens were upset with the second increase this year, pushing the annual water bill for a homeowner to nearly $1,000 per year in Rainy River.

I gained a new appreciation for soldiers and plumbers over the weekend.

Howard Hampton's announcement that he will be retiring from his long time held seat as our Member of Provincial Parliament has certainly made the upcoming election way more interesting... at least for me.
Over the past two decades Hampton faced some close challenges at election time but holding true to the riding's tradition, he was re-elected time and time again.

Well it is official! I am getting old.
Over the weekend we went camping and celebrated my 44th birthday.
We made it to camp, set everything up and had supper before we lit a bonfire.

Have you ever attempted something that you thought you could do and then could not quite get it right when you were in the moment?

It has been and has the potential to be an even bigger and more entertaining part of the Canada festivities.
I am speaking of the KidSport duck race that was held here on Canada Day.

Last week was a frustrating week in the newspaper business.
Frustrating not only for you the customer, but us at the paper as well.
