Customer Appreciation

On Thursday the Rainy River branch of the Northern Lights Credit Union celebrated Credit Union Day by cooking burgers, brats and hot dogs for their customers. Branch Manager Terri Anne Lundgren is seen here flipping burgers with her dad Archie Wiersema.

Taking to the road

The Roadrunner Motel in Rainy River has been purchased after sitting empty for more than a year. The new owners apparently have plans to move the buildings to a town in western Manitoba.

Taking down the champ!

Well known Canadian former Heavy Weight boxing champ George Chuvalo recently stayed at Buena Vista Resort in Morson while delivering a motivational seminar at Big Island First Nation. Chuvalo is well known for his boxing through the 1950s-70s. He was Canadian Heavy Wt. champ and fought Muhamad Ali twice. While staying at Buena Vista he was challenged and beaten (in jest) by Resort owner Chuck Gate, left, in arm wrestling.

Making her move!

Moriah Caradice, right, makes a move against "The Chess Guy" John Rutherford after the district Chess Qualifiers last Monday. Rutherford always plays around the clock, with any kids that want to, after the qualifiers. That means he plays several games simultaneously.

Pin the tail on...

...The Turkey! Rainy River's new after school kids program started last Tuesday. In keeping with a Thanksgiving theme kids played pin the tail last Wednesday. Kianah Powder, left, gets a little directional help from program coordinator Laurie Brown.

Triple blocked!

The RRHS Owls hosted the Red Lake Rams last Wednesday. Seen here Jr. Boys, l. to r., Alex Wells, Matt Comegan and Spencer Brown initiate a successful triple block. Here are the day's scores: RRHS Junior Boys lost three straight, 9-24, 12-25 and 22-25 Senior Boys lost 14-25, 16-25 and 17-25. Junior Girls basketball team won 27-14 and Sr. girls b-ball lost a close one 41-46.
